Hey everyone!
Today’s post is another blogging one. So many of you really love my blogging posts so I decided I will make it a regular thing every once in a while.
Blog photography is something that everyone will struggle with at least once in the blogging world because once you choose a style of picture you like, you have to keep it somewhat consistent to keep followers and gain them. Sure it’s ok to change your background but it is best to keep the quality similar.
I’m no expert but from having my blog for a while, I’ve learnt a few things!
Camera
Using a good camera is really important, using a phone camera is very good, depending on which phone you have but a camera is also amazing.
If you are just starting out with your blog and seeing if it is just for you then maybe you should keep with your phone camera or a camera that you have but as your blog grows, you might want to invest in a good camera for photos.
I use the Panasonic Lumix TZ57. When I bought this, it was on sale so I decided to buy this as it was very good quality. I am very happy with this camera at the moment as it takes amazing photos and has all of the features I could ever ask for.
I am always happy with the quality and the look of the photos I take with this camera.
The photo I am about to show you is taken with my iPhone 6s, of my camera.
The next photo was taken WITH my camera with a brighter filter.
I really recommend a camera with adjustable exposure as if the lighting isn’t as good then you can brighten it up a bit.
Background (for products)
Having a good background is key for good photos. If you take a photo with a messy background, it won’t look as appealing as something with a relevant, sleek background then it will look more professional.
I recommend using a counter top, table or even paper. Anything that will make the products stand out.
I use marble or this wrapping paper that I found in Paperchase for really cheap.
Lighting
Having good lighting is super important. Even you have to brighten it with an editing tool then that can make a difference. If you have a dark photo it may not be as appealing as one that it is easier to see when it is brighter. Obviously it depends on what you are taking a picture of but I always prefer my photos when they are darker.
I recommend taking pictures in the day. If you don’t have time to take any photos in the day, when you have time one day, take a bulk of photos ready for future blog posts.
Accessorise Your Photos
Adding in flowers, fairy lights, sequins or anything in your photos can make it look less boring or by making it looks more put together.
I got the flowers and lights shown here from IKEA, which is a really great place to get accessories for pictures. You can add pretty much anything and it will look great.

I am so grateful that you wrote this post. I just started my blog recently and have been using stock images because I haven’t really had much experience with any sort of photography (aside from selfies lol!) This was so helpful I can’t wait to start taking pictures for myself. Thank you!

Some great ideas here. Completely agree that a dedicated camera with adjustable exposure is the way to go.
You briefly mention image editing. Perhaps this could form the content of a follow-up post for you?
Congratulations on sharing what you have learnt while blogging…

That’s a really great idea, particularly if you like to use a camera in preference to a smartphone…

Great tips! The iPhone 6 camera quality is really good. I was debating between the iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 when I was buying my phone, and decided to go with a Samsung as it apparently had better quality. I might switch to iPhone next time after seeing your amazing pictures.
